We provide you tutorials of FlashMX 2004 basics and action scripts. Working with layers on FlashMX is important for creating better animations and timeline effects. Before going straight into this tutorial one must have a basic understanding about the motion tween and shape tween. If you have any doubt regarding the motion tween and shape tween in flash goes to our motion tween and shape tween tutorials. This tutorial will help you to work with layers using FlashMX 2004.
For viewing the animations in this site you need to install Flash Player 7.0 or higher and for downloading the .fla files from this site FlashMX 2004 must be installed in your system.
Steps that guide you to work with layers
To work with layers in FlashMX 2004 you first need to install FlashMX 2004 in your system.
Start the FlashMX 2004 and create a new Flash document. (To create a new flash document, open a new file and then select its type as Flash Document).
After creating a new Flash Document, FlashMX puts a default layer (“layer 1”) in the timeline and the playhead stands in the first frame of layer 1.Note that the first frame is a keyframe. If the timeline window is not open you could open it by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T.
The next step is to create a shape tween on the first layer. See our Shape tween tutorial for creating a shape tween effect using timeline.
Create a new layer. A new layer could be added to the timeline by pressing the /new layer button’ in the bottom left side of the timeline. By default the name of the new layer will be one more than the previous layer i.e. if the name of the previous layer is layer 1 the new layer becomes ‘layer’2 and the next new layer becomes ‘layer 3’ and so on. Layers can also be renamed. To rename a layer double-click on the layer and type the name.
On the new layer you just added, create a motion tween in it. See our motion tween tutorial for creating a shape tween effect using timeline.
After doing all the above steps, the timeline will appear like as shown below.
